Dr. Chen received her bachelor's degree in political science and administration, bachelor's degree in economics, master's degree in demography and doctor's degree in demography from Peking University, and was a visiting scholar at the University of Southern California. She is an associate professor at the School of Public Administration, Renmin University of China.

Her research areas include long-term care systems, integrated health and social care, and health expectancy.

Dr. Chen has published more than 30 papers in top academic journals, such as  BMJ-British Medical Journal  and  Population Research , and co-authored  Equity for the Aged in China  published by the United Nations. She has received research financial support from the National Natural Science Foundation of China and the Ministry of Education.
